A woman who cried because she was so embarrassed about the size she was has now turned her life around and is becoming a Slimming World consultant.
Grace Jagger is embarking on a new career after losing two stone in just five months with her local Slimming World group and has now decided to use her knowledge to help others reach their dream weight.
After joining her local group in Blackpool, Grace lost weight in just five months after an incredibly tough two years.
She explained: “I felt like I wasn’t me anymore. After having Heidi [my daughter] none of my normal size 14 or size 16 clothes fit me.
“I just thought I’d go back into them once my bump had gone, but no. Size 14 maternity clothes don’t match size 14 normal clothes.
“I sat and cried and cried. I was embarrassed that I was looking at size 18 clothes in the shops and I had to cut clothes so that they would fit me too.”
Grace is determined to help others so they don’t have to go through the embarrassment she endured.
She continued: “I don’t want any new mummy or any other person to feel the way I did.
“I feel I can help people not feel that way and find themselves again, just like I was helped find myself again.”
For many of us becoming slimmer, fitter, healthier will be at the top of the list of our New Year’s resolutions for 2022.
Spending so much time indoors, often coupled with more indulgent food choices and disrupted routines, saw many healthy habits fall by the wayside during the pandemic – and then Christmas rounded it off.
Grace is looking forward to helping people reach those goals.
She added: “I am most looking forward to meeting new people and helping them on their weight loss journey as well as celebrating their amazing achievements both on the scales and off the scales.”
Grace’s first group will take place on December 30 at Holy Family RC Church Lytham Rd, Freckleton.
Slimming World has shared some tips to help you lose weight without going hungry.
1. Don’t go hungry.
Grace says the key to her success was swapping high-calorie unsatisfying foods such as chocolate, alcohol and pastries for foods that are lower in calories and bulkier so they fill you for longer.
Research shows that by basing your diet on low energy-dense foods, like fruit and veg, and foods that are most filling like lean meat, eggs, potatoes and pasta, you can actually eat a larger amount of food and feel more satisfied.
Grace lost 5 1/2 lbs in her first week by making simple changes to her shopping and cooking, such as cooking with less fat, swapping full-fat dairy products to fat-free and adding more fruit and veg into her daily meals.
2. It’s okay to walk before you run.
If your goal is to get fitter, remember you don’t have to become a professional athlete to get active – just making a commitment to moving more all adds up.
After having her daughter Heidi, Grace felt unfit and out of breath when climbing the stairs, so started simply walking with the pram, she built it up week by week doing little and often to start with and found herself enjoying it and making it a daily routine and most importantly a regular habit like brushing your teeth.
3. Be kind to yourself.
We all start January with great intentions, but it’s too easy to go off track.
It’s about what you do next that matters most – and the most important thing is not to beat yourself up about it. A Slimming World survey of 1,700 slimmers showed that when they did have a slip-up, being self-critical was more likely to lead to comfort eating and giving up completely, whereas when they were kinder to themselves ( imagine how you would talk to a friend who’s had a setback) they more quickly got back to healthy eating lost weight and they kept it off.
4. Don’t go it alone.
The principles of losing weight are quite simple, yet if it was that easy – we’d be all doing it.
Studies show that embarking on your weight loss journey alongside other slimmers brings more success than doing it alone – Grace shares that the Slimming World group she attends as a member is a huge part of her success – sharing ideas and top tips is just a small part of what happens within the group, they have helped to make Grace feel confident again after having her baby Heidi, who they all adore and take it in turn for cuddles every week.
Recent research has shown that people who are supported to lose weight in a group increase their mental toughness – developing more control, embracing challenges and growing in confidence – more than those who choose to lose weight alone.
Losing weight and being part of the group has given Grace the confidence to start her very own Slimming World group and embark on a brand new career she launches on December 30 at Holy Family RC Church Lytham Rd, Freckleton.
