They will also prioritise elective procedures and outpatient appointments which are urgent, cancer or fast-track in nature
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals are to prioritise emergency and urgent care on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, they have today announced.
As businesses and institutions across the country prepare to come to a halt on Monday (September 19) in respect for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals have announced that they will be prioritising emergency and urgent care.
They will also prioritise elective procedures and outpatient appointments which are urgent, cancer or fast-track in nature. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals adds that ‘where possible’ these will continue on the day or will be re-scheduled within the week.
In a statement shared by the Trust, they said: “The Trust is focused on preparations for the Bank Holiday on Monday and aims to continue with as much urgent clinical activity as possible for our patients who are scheduled to come in, whilst also supporting as many colleagues as possible to take part in this significant national event in our history and pay their respects to HM the Queen.
“In particular we will prioritise emergency and urgent care as well as elective procedures and outpatient appointments which are urgent, or cancer/fast-track in nature. Where possible these will continue on the day or will be re-scheduled within the week, patients will be notified of any changes.
The statement continues: “We know some patients might not be able to attend their appointment because they now have caring responsibilities or difficulties with travel have arisen, where planned admissions or appointments are continuing we will be contacting everyone this week to talk to them about any issues they have to ascertain if they are able to attend.
“Routine planned admissions and appointments have in the main been cancelled and these will be re-scheduled at the earliest opportunity, patients will have received, or will receive cancellation notices this week.”
