Boris Johnson will be visiting Lancashire today where he will face questions from the media.
The Prime Minister was previously scheduled to attend a vaccine centre in Burnley earlier this month, but cancelled after a family member tested positive for Covid-19.
In Lancashire, the Prime Minister will today (February 2) take questions from LancsLive and other media outlets on a raft of issues including Levelling Up and the return of the Conservative Party’s spring conference to Blackpool.
The PM has been under scrutiny this week with calls calls for his resignation following the release of Sue Gray’s redacted partygate report.
Ms Gray’s report details how she has investigated an alleged 16 parties during lockdown, of which 12 are now the subject of police enquiries.
The Prime Minister’s trip is ahead of the Conservative Party’s spring conference which returns to Blackpool next month. The conference is set to be held over March 18 and 19 at the Winter Gardens.
The forum aims to provide an opportunity for members, organisations and the media to engage with the party and hear about new ideas and policies.
Blackpool South MP Scott Benton welcomed the return of the spring conference.
He said: “I can’t wait for the Spring Conference, and I am so pleased that it is returning to Blackpool. I look forward to welcoming senior Party figures to the town, to showcase what a wonderful place we have here. I hope to convince the party to hold many more events in Blackpool in the years to come.”
Councillor Gillian Campbell, Cabinet Member for Tourism & Culture, said earlier this year: “We are delighted to see the return of a mainstream party political conference to Blackpool – and we hope it will be the first of many. Our investment in a new conference centre to complement the existing facilities in the Winter Gardens is a statement of our intent to once again become a major player in the conference market.
“The return of the Conservative Party after a number of years away gives us every confidence that we can do just that. We look forward to welcoming delegates back to Blackpool in the spring of 2022 when they will be able to experience the outstanding new conference facilities that are currently under construction.”
