A brand new museum is set to open in Blackpool next month.
Building work for the town’s Showtown museum has now been complete, with new images published today (March 27) revealing what it will look like. With much of the hard work now finished, the installation of the exhibitions, objects and interactives will now begin.
Taking to their Facebook page, the Showtown museum unveiled some images of what the inside of the building currently looks like. Alongside the images, a caption states that it’s “such an exciting time for everyone at Showtown” and they “couldn’t resist” sharing some pictures of its current state.

The museum also gives a “huge thanks” to Conlon Construction who have been working to build the exhibit for the last 18 months. Last year, LancsLive reported on the announcement that the Showtown museum would be opening.
It was confirmed that 30 new jobs would be created as a result of the brand new museum, which was due to be opened in April 2023. At the time, it was said that 10 existing staff were working hard to create the displays, meaning 40 positions would be made at the museum in total.
Roles include magicians, comedians and also teams of volunteers who will help out with hosting guests and archiving collections. Charitable company, Blackpool Heritage and Museum Trust are running Showtown, which came after the council’s executive approved a proposal for the set up.
The £13m museum will showcase Blackpool’s rich entertainment history, however, it appears visitors will have to wait another year, as the museum is set to open to the public in Spring 2024. In the comments of the Facebook pot, Showtown Blackpool added: “All getting very exciting now. We will be opening to the public in Spring 2024 ready for the Easter holidays!”
Although you have to wait to see what it’s all about with your own eyes, it appears that many people are excited for the museum to open. One Facebook user wrote: “Wow! It’s been a long time coming! Can’t wait.”
Another posted: “Fantastic! This looks like a great space.” A third added: “I’m very much looking forward to seeing you, and all the remarkable exhibitions and items of Blackpool entertainment history. Been a long time in coming, but from what I believe this will be well worth the wait.”
