Sharon Mawdesley denies misconduct and sexual assault while working at HMP Kirkham
A Lancashire prison librarian is accused of molesting male inmates while working at HMP Kirkham.
A number of prisoners claim Sharon Mawdesley, 45, sexually assaulted them while they were behind bars. This happened during an eight month period at the detention centre.
At the time of the alleged offences, Mawdesley was employed by Lancashire County Council’s library service, working behind bars at the category D men’s prison. She left her job in July 2018.
Dressed in a khaki cardigan, Mawdesley spoke only to confirm her name and enter not guilty pleas to the charges she faces.
Judge Heather Lloyd granted unconditional bail and set a date for Mawdesley to stand trial, on September 29 next year.
