So it turns out Lancashire LOVES pizza.
Over on our Facebook page, we asked you to recommend your favourite pizza place, and you delivered.
Readers replied in their hundreds to tell us about the must-visits eateries to enjoy a slice of the traditional Italian favourite.
A number of restaurants were nominated several times, with some smaller and long-standing family-run businesses also getting a shout out.
We’ve put together a shortlist, in no particular order, of pizzerias from across the region, together with reasons for what makes them so great below, and you can find the full list here
We love the play-on-words with the name of this place.
Customers clearly appreciate the food too, with pizzas the main dish on the menu but kebabs and burgers are also popular.
In her post on Facebook, Esme Fay says that no matter where she lives, Topping will always be “the best” while Gavin Haslam agreed, saying he “loves” the food.
Boasting a near-perfect 4.9 satisfaction rating on Facebook, Stefani’s was nominated by a number of times by readers, who enjoy the wood-fired pizzas in the open kitchen pizzeria.
Kelly Davies said it is “the best, love love love” in her recommendation while Kelly Gough called the pizza “delightful” in her Facebook review.
Il Gusto d’Italia, Bamber Bridge
A traditional Italian restaurant with such great stone-baked pizzas on the menu, customers keep coming back for more.
The venue also runs events throughout the year, including pizza making parties for children and they also offer a takeaway service.
Lorraine Noblett among others nominated Il Gusto, while adjectives such as “awesome”, “brilliant” and “amazing” are common in reviews of the restaurant on TripAdvisor and Facebook.
Enzo’s was nominated a number of times by our readers.
The family business in East Lancashire has been running for 34 years and has remained one of the most popular restaurants in the town for just as long.
It was first opened by Vincenzo Manta, who died aged 62 in 2020, and his brothers, who continue to run the takeaway.
Ali Croft wrote in her review on Facebook: “We are a half Italian family and must say the food was excellent, we were all delighted with our order – as good as everyone has said. Will definitely be ordering on a regular basis.”
While Robert Shaw said ordering was “slick” and the pizza was “as good as ever”.
Purely Pizza, Burscough
Purely Pizza have written in their ‘about’ blurb on their Facebook page: “Self confessed pizza geeks, creating sourdough pizzas with quality, fresh ingredients. Also catering for events and private parties.”
And clearly customers agree, with the combination of tasty pizzas, live music and a relaxed atmosphere a winning mix.
Gail Coates said in her review: “First time trying tonight and we will be back, pizzas are excellent. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations, brilliant atmosphere also was so chilled.”
Fusing cask ale and pizza together [not literally] this place offers an artisan vibe, with stone baked pizza washed down by a craft or cask beer, in the heart of Chorley.
It also has a five-star rating on Facebook, with a number of LancsLive readers recommending it, with some also impressed with its vegan and dairy-free options.
Julie Thompson said in her review: “Absolutely loving this place, amazing pizza. Vegan, one fully loaded meat feast…cleanest place I’ve been in a long while and the service was spot on !! I’ll definitely be making a return visit, 5 stars”.
Pasta and gourmet burgers join the main event – pizzas – on the menu at Puccini, which delivers to Penwortham, Lostock Hall and Hutton, while also offering a collection service.
Lisa Mahon said her pizzas and lasagne were “fantastic and really tasty” in her review, as Linda Sutherland described her meal as “absolutely beautiful”.
Pizza Perfection, Nelson
Open for 26 years, Pizza Perfection is showing no signs of its popularity waning, with customers lapping up their fresh pizzas, where they can also create their own from a huge selection of toppings.
Other menu options include spare ribs and pasta dishes.
Mishel Jane Vee said in her Facebook review of the takeaway: “Just finished our dinner from Pizza Perfection. Delicious pizzas and efficient service, as always! Thanks guys, will be ordering again soon”.
Two Cents, Ormskirk
On top of devouring their freshly-made Neapolitan-style pizzas, Two Cents also offer classes to learn how to make your own while also putting together kits for you to cook with the kids at home.
The venue has a five star rating on Facebook and TripAdvisor, with Dan Hall ignoring the rules completely and giving it 11/10 in his review.
“I had some amazing pizza from Two Cents last night, delicious Neapolitan and pan pizza. Nicola the owner is an amazing human and knows how to make great pizza”.
As Dan Noon took part in one of the classes. He said: “Attended the pizza course where I learnt so much. It was a great experience and Nicola is a fabulous teacher!!!
“I would recommend anybody undertaking this to get an understanding of how to make fantastic pizzas”.
Pulci Pizza, Poulton le Fylde
The food is apparently so good here, it’s gone before there’s a chance to take a picture of it, just ask Facebook reviewer Kim Goodbourn. Luckily we managed to find one for you.
She wrote: “Absolutely amazing! First time ordering tonight and will definitely ordering again! Everything was delicious. Would have taken a picture but didn’t last long enough to get one”.
Pulci, which has a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor, also serves gluten free pizzas, vegetarian and vegan options and offers a collection service.
Lewis D wrote in his review TripAdvisor: “I cannot believe this place has been open for 10 years and I never even knew about it, hands-down one of the most amazing Italians I have ever been too, the food was so fresh and tasty, the staff are amazing and so so friendly and I cannot wait to go again”.
Ed’s Pizza, Leyland
Another venue that serves up authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas is Ed’s in Leyland and the rave reviews have been rolling in on Facebook, giving it a five-star rating.
Jamie Atkinson wrote in his review: “Why so good? It’s really simple, make good dough with few ingredients, use few really good quality toppings, don’t do sizes, don’t do novelty toppings and you get great pizza. Every other pizza shop in a ten mile radius of Ed’s should be very afraid.”
While Trish Kelly said it was the best pizza base “outside of Italy.”
Franco’s Ristorante Pizzeria, Oswaldtwistle
We love a place that proves doubters wrong, and Franco’s is just that place.
Their tagline reads “An Italian restaurant in Ossy? It won’t last five minutes…”- local resident Rammy (1984)” and the rest, as they say, is history.
Franco and Kim Sanna and family, who are originally from Sardinia, have run the restaurant since November 1984 and have seen it grow in popularity over the decades. They are now serving the grandchildren of regular, long-standing customers.
“Rammy is still eating his words over 20 years later,” the family confirm.
Franco’s has 4.8 score on Facebook and four on TripAdvisor.
“Forever excellent” says denti73 in his TripAdvisor review, adding: “Been visiting Franco’s place for over 15 years. Pizzas, garlic breads & pasta to die for every time!!! Five stars”.
We think this sums up customer satisfaction of this takeaway pretty well, with vegetarian options also available and thin crust pizzas their speciality.
Papa Luigi’s, Chorley
Another family-run establishment, Papa Luigi’s consistently scores highly in Facebook and TripAdvisor reviews, with diners enjoying their menu of pizzas, pastas and other Italian dishes.
A popular bonus for customers is the regular meal offers the restaurant offers.
Dave Wood wrote in a recent Facebook review: “Very impressed with the quality of food and atmosphere. Portions sizes are very generous. Staff were lovely.”
Alongside Italian dishes, Jaznias also offers Bengali, Indian and Mexican options on the menu.
You can eat in or takeaway, and customers, who highly recommend the venue, say the food is “wow, amazing” and “yummy”.
