Park for a pound in Blackpool as Christmas By The Sea returns to promenade

The seaside resort is introducing discounted parking over the festive season

Visiting Blackpool in the run up to Christmas just got even more appealing. Discounted parking is to be introduced in the seaside resort for several weeks this festive season.

Residents and visitors will be able to park for three hours for a single pound in any of the town’s council-run car parks. The money-saving scheme, which hopes to cost of living worries for families over the winter, will run from Sunday, November 18 to Monday, January 2.

The initiative coincides with the return of the record-breaking Christmas By The Sea event on the promenade at Tower festival Headland.

The winter wonderland village includes a free skating rink, wintry light installations and projection shows, log cabins, magical artificial snowfall, Christmas trees and tram rides. The 260ft-high Star Flyer swing ride will also return to the seafront.

Councillor Mark Smith, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Enterprise & Job Creation, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Christmas By The Sea village and wider town centre retail offer by reintroducing the highly-popular £1 parking offer for an extended period in the run-up to Christmas.

“Last year, Blackpool’s unique Christmas offer brought visitors from far and wide and gave our businesses a welcome post-pandemic boost after one of the most difficult trading periods imaginable. We hope this parking offer will further encourage residents to shop in their own town centre this Christmas as well as providing a huge incentive for visitors coming from out-of-town to enjoy free family entertainment.”

The parking offer is only valid when using the PayByPhone system. Customers will need to download the PayByPhone app and register, or call 0800 546 0609. Three-hour sessions are limited to one per day and normal tariffs apply after this time. Filey Place and Talbot Multi-Storey car parks are not included.
