Sam Ryder ‘doesn’t want to leave Blackpool’ after belting out Space Man at the top of the Tower

The Eurovision runner up was visiting the seaside resort to preform on Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Fever returned to Blackpool once again as this years stars flocked to the Tower Ballroom to give it their all. But one celeb has found himself keen to stay in the town.

Eurovision’s Sam Ryder says he ‘doesn’t want to go home’ as he was videoed belting out a rendition of his number 1 hit ‘Space Man’ at the top of the Blackpool Tower.

Sam, who shot to fame after placing second in the Eurovision song contest with the viral hit, was in the Seaside town to perform on the Strictly Come Dancing results show, which saw Kiss FM DJ Tyler and his professional partner Dianne eliminated.

In a video posted to the Blackpool Tower Facebook Page, the singer could be seen singing his heart out on the Tower Eye’s 5cm thick glass viewing platform. He changed the lyrics slightly to acknowledge his epic surroundings, by singing “I’m up in space, the Blackpool Tower, man” and finished his chorus with ‘there’s nothing but space man, literally, between my feet.”

He rounded off his performance by saying he doesn’t want to leave the seaside resort. He said: “”I don’t wanna go home because Blackpool’s wicked.”

Fans loved his acapella performance 380ft in the air, and quickly rushed to complement his impressive pipes.

One person said: “There was a slight Freddie Mercury sound there somewhere. Great vocal range fella.” Another added: “Love it. Made me smile this. Remember the times I’ve been standing there.”

Sam, who was hailed a “national hero” when he came second at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy behind Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, belted out the John Farnham power ballad You’re The Voice at the opening of Sunday night’s results show.

Taking to twitter to reflect on his performance, he said: “Never knew shredding guitar in the Blackpool tower to a ballroom full of legends was in the stars for me but here we are. Thank u love u.”
