During the winter months, days filled with sun are few and far between. This may lead to people turning to sunbeds in an attempt to get a sun kissed look.

Patient Claim Line used Google search data to find the towns and cities where residents are searching for ‘sunbeds near me’. Using these locations, they then found which have the most sunbed tanning shops available within a one mile radius.

The research discovered that Blackpool was the area which had the most sunbed salons close to those searching for the service. It found that there were 16 nearby.

Lincoln, in the East Midlands, was in second place with over nine salons available to those looking to hop on a sunbed. In joint third place was Swinton and Wakefield with seven salons available within a mile radius of those searching.

Patient Claim Line conducted the research to raise awareness of the dangers that using sunbeds, and being exposed to UVA rays, can cause.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson at Patient Claim Line said: “Our data shows that Brits living in Blackpool have the most sunbed tanning shops available, within a one mile radius, for those searching for ‘sunbeds near me’.

“There are more than six deaths a day in the UK from melanoma skin cancer, so it’s important to be aware of the risks that using sunbeds can pose. Naturally, there will be an influx of people looking to top up their tan during the winter months but it’s crucial to consider all options before opting for a sunbed.”
